The most common mistake in Englishlanguage is its and it’s. The first is used for possession and the second isthe short form of it is. Some people think that the apostrophe can be omitted andthat the two are basically the same, but we all know it’s not like that. Youcan say “I like ketchup, because of its spicy flavor” because its replaces ‘ketchup’,and in the same breath you can say “I like ketchup because it’s the best sauce”,in this case you mean ‘it is’ and you don’t mean the ketchup so you can’t place‘its’.

Second most famous mistake is their and they’re and there.This is a more complex one because you have two wrong options and only oneright. Their is a word that can be used in sentences such as “This is theirsoda” it’s about possession and nothingelse. There shows us the place of something “There is their soda”, this tellsus that the soda is somewhere in the near or not that far, not that the sodabelongs to someone such as in the first sentence. Now comes ‘they’re’; this isa short variant of they are and I suppose that you don’t mistake this, becauseit’s obviously more different than the other two. “They’re going to get soda”;this means that they are going to get the soda; it’s not anywhere there, it’snot their soda (yet) it isn’t anybody’s soda and they are just going to walktowards the bar and get it.

Remember this? It’s very simple and the best way to rememberthem is by doing examples by yourself. The first thing you can do is change thesubject of the sentences I gave you for examples, then try doing new sentencesof yourself.

Many students from Europe follow the tendency to study inthe USA. Whether we like that or not, this is far away and with the prices forstudying and living in the USA, you don’t always have the chance to buyyourself a ticket and fly all the way back here. And as a student you stillaren’t used to being alone and not seeing your parents for such a long periodof time.

This isn’t all that bad because in our modern times, we haveprograms like Skype. While you can make free calls, you can also turn video onin those calls. Did I mention they are free? I always wonder why does a companylike that operate if they don’t earn profit from that, but I’m sure that moneyfalls in their pockets from one source or another. So this is like a solution to the problem.You just need a computer and internet and you can see people who are tens ofthousands of kilometers away. But isn’t that turning us into socializedzombies. Are we soon to forget that seeing somebody live and face to face isway better than seeing them on a screen? I have the strange feeling that withthe introduction of video calls, within the next 10-15 years, our kids willrarely get out of the houses, they will be either talking and seeing each otheror they will be chatting and seeing each other. This might sound ridiculous butthat’s what the future is. I don’t suppose that many people have predicted successfullywhat would be now, a hundred years ago. Do you have the brain power to think ofwhat it will be like in 2112? Are people even going to get out of their housesto work or get the groceries? Are we going to pass the 10B mark? Or willcapitalism kill half of the world and only 3B of us will be left.

Talking on this subject, I believe that too many kids forgetabout their parents and what they have done for them. I can’t accept the factthat your parents have worked their a**** off in order to give you greateducation and all you give them is a Christmas card if you have the time toremember that it’s Christmas. I’m not talking particularly about you, but thereare such cases in our world. People are forgetting who gave them a strongstart. And the strong start is the thing that let us succeed in our life. I don't know if this is forensic psychology. Oh wait, it's totally another thing. I don't know if this is psychology or not, but it's a real problem of the generation.

Freelancing: A Successful Cover Letter

I’ve already covered the topic of freelancing, but I feel,since this is a great way for many people and especially students to help theirbudget, that I could add a little more. A cover letter is the first thing thatthe employer will read about you. Yes, after the picture and the profile rateyou have set, but it’s the thing that leaves the first impression. And younever have another chance to keep a first impression.

A cover letter, simply said, has to show the employer whyyou are the best for the job and why you are better than the other optionslying before the employer. The most important thing, before anything else issaid, is not to create a universal letter and copy-paste it everywhere, onevery job. On every job description,there is usually a list of skills and recommendations for the perfectcandidate. You ought to follow that list correctly if you want a chance atgetting that job. And by saying that you should follow this list, I don’t meanjust saying “I’m good at this and that, I’m just better than the others becauseI said so.” Most often you will need to show self-confidence. Employers willrarely take on that person who doesn’t have an opinion. Of course, there aregoing to be people who just won’t listen to your opinion at all and won’t takeyou on just because you showed your opinion, but this isn’t something thatshould change the way you’re thinking. And I suppose you’re thinking the way Ijust told you to.

You need to show some self confidence. If you have completedany projects that were hard, mention it. Nobody likes hiring someone withoutany previous experience. If you show your employer that you’ve dealt with evenharder projects than his, then he will feel sure about you and will know thatyou can do the job even without him having to stay over your head and give youinstructions about every little thing that has to be done. If you have anycertificates in your past experiences, also mention them. It’s like being areal employer. Would you hire somebody that says that has skills for your jobor would you get someone who has actually a certification proving that. I’m notsaying that if you don’t have a certification you won’t get a job, I just wantto tell you that if other people do, it will be a bit harder for you.

Be absolutely polite in your cover letter. It’s a placewhere you not only show that you have an opinion of your own, but that you can respectthat of the other people and that you are a very nice person. You wouldn’t liketo have that groggy person for a colleague, who does nothing but talk about hisproblems all day or something like that. Besides being polite, make sure that your coverletter is mistake-free. Make sure that you’re not mistaking it’s with its andthere with their. Don’t forget commas and don’t use sentences that are toolong. Long sentences make one forget where he began from.

According to the Mayans, this is the last year of the planetEarth. This must mean that this is the last St. Valentine’s Day that we aregoing to celebrate. Isn’t that romantic? I’m sure that everybody will want thelast romantic-driven holiday to be spent in a nice fashion.

What better way than going to the restaurant and making asurprise to your loved one. What better way than going to some romanticrestaurant, where the lights are all dim and there is light music as abackground, where there are candles on each table and everybody is just toobusy talking to his/her special person? I’m sure that in addition to all that anice meal would come great and after that a present for dessert. What betterthing to give to a woman than a diamond necklace for Valentine’s as a dessert.This is one thing that won’t be able to keep her emotionless. All women arekeen on jewelry and such stuff, so whatever you get her, you won’t mistake. Theonly law, which isn’t really good to our wallets, is that the more expensive itis the better the reaction of the woman will be.

If you want to be even more romantic, you could do theromantic dinner at home and after the diamond surprise, walk her into yourbedroom. Don’t get all excited yet. I’m sure that in the bedroom you would atleast want even dimmer light and a bottle of champagne. I forgot to mentionthat having red lights and red bed sheets would be a big plus, as this is acolor that acts as a stimulant for love. Rose leaves all over the place andcandles with scent and she’s all yours, or at least until next Valentine’s. If you are a newcomer to the website, don’t be afraidto candidate for jobs. People will reject you at first sight, but then after it’sgoing to become easier and easier. The second thing that people look in you is the profile. It’s 2012 now and everybody is working and already forgottenthat it was soon when we celebrated the New Year with resolutions, wishes andpromises that we are going to do anything in our powers to make it a betterone.

But do many of us remember what we promised ourselves, ordid we just do that because we wanted to keep a clean record. Did we make NewYear’s resolutions, because we wanted to feel good in some way? People tend todo things just because they want to feel good in front of themselves and theywant to brag with other people that their resolutions are bigger than those ofthe others but what the heck. What’s the use of making empty promises if you’regoing to give them up after a few weeks? That’s not really a nice thing to playwith. This is a thing that builds bad character. The more promises you make andnot keep the worse of a person you will become. Don’t get me wrong, I mean thatif you get used to not keeping your promises, then you will become a totallydifferent person. Even your close ones might notice that in you and they willthink that you’re a totally new character. Those little things tend to changeeverything.

I personally didn’t make resolutions that are toounrealistic for me. I’ve also seen people who made resolutions that they willbecome millionaires. I really can’t realize how you can do that, especially if you are working as a forensic psychologist. I’ll bevery happy for the people who have set such a high goal for themselves and achievedit. But still, I just can’t stress how important it is for one to only setgoals that he can achieve, because, I already explained why. Don’t just becomethe next person who has enough will to do the things that he wants to, but istoo lazy or thinks that there is still a lot of time to go in the year and thatthis isn’t something of first importance and it can be postponed for a laterdate in the year, maybe in the summer, when you are on a vacation or somethinglike that. You know what I mean, the famous “I’m starting from Monday” line.It’s most famous with diets, but it can be applied here too.

If you’re still wondering what my realistic resolutions are,they are to make my posts even more entertaining and professionally written. Idon’t want to be just the next blogger that is read by random people over theinternet, I want to become a person, not necessarily that successful, who hasthe ability to write and to know that there are at least a few people out therewho can appreciate that.

Happy New Year everyone! I hope that 2012 will be a far moresuccessful and filled with happiness year. At least I’m sure that it will befor me. You know that the more positive you’re thinking, the more success you’llachieve. And it’s not only success you’ll find if you’re positive, you’ll alsofind peace and tranquility when you’re with your own family. And what more doesa person need in his life than health and happiness.

The New Year is perfect for becoming a new person. Have youever wanted to change a characteristic of your person but never found the timeto do so? The time after New Year is perfect for that. The first reason is thatyou’re most probably more happy than you’ve ever been at any time in the lastyear. Christmas, when combined with the festivities about the upcoming year,founds a long series of holidays and you’re much rested. And when you spend alot of time with your kids, wife, parents and friends, you’re becoming evenhappier. And there is an old saying: “New Year’s, new luck” which just adds toyour mood about changing yourself.

If you don’t feel like changing anything about yourself,then why not just dream about the good things that might happen in this year. Theymight not really happen, but don’t thing negatively, why shouldn’t they happento you. I often find myself daydreaming about the success that I’m going toachieve. I get carried away and for some moments I believe that I’m really assuccessful as in my dreams. And if not that, I begin believing that success istoo easy to achieve. It brings me great pleasure, even though I always knowthat the chance for these things to happen is small. I like doing so; it getsoff all of the negative pressure off my shoulders. It’s a type of relaxation.People usually dream when they’re in the shower, but for me that’s a time tolisten to my favorite music, so I scarcely enter the shower without turning onthe music on the cabin. It’s another type of relaxation. And by the way, it’s agreat idea to dream about the things you might get in the New Year.

Distance Learning in Younger Ages

I’ve already covered topics about distance learning, butthose were about online colleges. Even the best online colleges cannotgive you what a normal campus college will. But as an adult you will be able tosacrifice yourself in order to get education which will provide you with a toplevel career.

But when we’re talking about children, it’s a bit more different.People say that the first seven years are most important. But when you’redealing with a kid, the first 20 years are crucial. You can’t take a firstgrader out of school and make him sit home every day and study. This might bebetter, because the kid will be studying at its own pace and won’t have to beput up with other students which have no interest studying. From the educationalpoint of view, being a private student is great. You’re going to have all ofthe attention to yourself and you won’t be able to not study for a lesson andhope that you won’t get examined. A kid might learn to be a punctual person andalways do all of the work, rather than normal students which are doing only asmall part of the work and getting all the credit. We all know that privatestudents usually become millionaires (if they aren’t already) or verysuccessful people (success doesn’t only express in money), but there are somesides of the private tuition that are not so good for the upbringing of a child.

Private tuition means that the kid is going to be all byhimself. A normal school has little breaks that enable the students to talk toeach other and socialize. They build relationships and ability to react insituations for which they aren’t prepared. We see lots of projects in studentbooks that are meant to make students talk to each other but the topics arealways the same: describe your best holiday, describe your summer and so on. Theidea is for the child to feel like a part of the whole, which is the community.You might be extremely smart, but you can’t become a successful businessmanwithout having some great orator skills. Some might say that this is the pointof kids studying literature and I agree, but once again I want to say thatliterature will only teach you when to use which words, so that the sentence,text sounds complete. In a real situation you will be a little confused andworried and if you’ve relied solely on the literature, then you’ll mumble somedisconnected words that have absolutely no meaning.

To my opinion kids need to build strong relationships witheach other and they should do it in a natural way. You shouldn’t just make yourkid talk with other kids. Let it relax, mix with the crowd and everything willhappen by itself. You might make your kid a genius, but don’t make him studyall day long, this could turn him into an aggressive person and you’ll achievethe opposite effect of what you’ve planned. It’ll become a spoiled kid who willmake anything in order not to obey you.

Christmas is Near

Well, it really is. And who wants to think of studying and working in that time? Nobody wants to work or study on Christmas. Even the people in the shops don't want to work, but they do because of the fact that they can't live without a job and that they get a very fat share of the profits from the Christmas shopping frenzy.
The only thing that makes me go on in such times is the fact that I get a bonus to my salary and that I get a rest. This is the time when I can feel like a kid again. Staying at home, drinking a hot cocoa or coffee, gazing at the snow. This is something that I like to do every year. It's so relaxing and it makes all of my memories pop up. All of them are good of course and I feel really happy when I do so. I really recommend that you try it. Now I wouldn't tell you to go out and have a snow fight with the kids, but if you feel that you have the energy, then why not.
Christmas is that time of year when we forget about all our problems and live in another dimension for a week. We just see everything in its good side. I bet that all of you are happy to see your family again when this time of the year comes. The good thing is that if you haven't seen them for a long time, then you probably will have lots of things to tell each other. This is when it gets really nice. Being on the Christmas table and barely finding the time to breathe, because you're talking non-stop. I'm sure that you've had a hard time telling your grandpa that you graduated from an online college. It'll be a hard job doing so this year, but still -- good luck.
If you're the host of the party, then you'll undergo lots of stress when preparing the dinner for the party. This is the time when we wouldn't want anything to go wrong and if something does -- oh boy, are we in big trouble. A whole year, 365 and on this special one you had to spoil the dinner. Well don't worry, it isn't a problem. There's always a way out of the situation, if you're creative. You might have a veggie dinner, but who cares as long as your guests have what to eat.

My Opinion on Online Colleges

Believe itor not, there really is a difference between online colleges and normalcolleges. I’ve already told you that in one of my previous articles, but now I’mgoing to share my personal opinion and hopefully hear yours. I’m open to anysuggestions and ideas that might come up your head.

To me anonline college is just the next step in the evolution of technologies andeducation. Can you imagine not being able to study in a college remotely, whenyou have a computer as small as your telephone (nowadays, the best telephoneshave 1.4 GHz processors, which is really high for a device that small). In thefuture you might even take lessons on your phone, when you are at work, havingnothing to do.

The best online universities have lotsof opportunities for their students. You can get taught almost any degree online, with just the click of a few buttons. Of course, it does come cheaperthan going to a normal college, due to the fact that you’re not paying anyupkeep taxes for the cleaning ladies or paying electricity bills for theheating. You might not see what you are paying for, but these are just samplesof the things that a college student pays for in his tax. You just pay for yourinternet and all of the education that you receive -- nothing more or less. Ireally fancy that, because you have to pay for a lot more things than just theeducation. Not to talk about dorm rooms rents ant things like that.

The badthing is that you are going to study all by yourself. This way, there is nocompetition and you probably won’t learn things in a fast manner. But if thatdoesn’t really mean something to you, then it won’t be a problem. Youngstudents are usually driven by competition and the fact that they want to proveto the others that they are better. While adults just tend not to care aboutmenial things like that.

Even if you have the time and money to goto a real college (you still have that full-time job), you would probably feelkind of strange being around hundreds of people younger than you. If you have a full time job, you mostprobably have many problems to think of. And besides that, you are paying forthe college all by yourself. On the other hand, we have handfuls of studentswho are there for one reason solely – partying. I’m not saying that they aren’tstudying, but it is kind of a background.

But still, I think that there is a very bright future in theonline jobbing. People from India will be able to work for companies based inthe US. Now these freelancing sites are even introducing dynamic tests (withdifferent questions every time), which will surely prove that you have theskills required in order to complete the job of the employer. Graduating from an online college won't result you in wearing one of these hats

The online universities are getting into the educational business. Some people would like to study in a specific university, but wouldn't like to move out of home, or perhaps you have a job and would like to just receive additional education and specialization in your professional area? Or, a modern case, you are a very young mother who has chosen to keep her baby and can’t go to a dorm, take care of a kid and yourself and be able to pay for all that. Then the online colleges come in handy.

There isn’t much difference between online colleges and real campus-based college, except, of course, the fact that you won’t be in a classroom with hundreds of others students at your age, moving from room to room and just waiting for the lectures to finish, so you can go party. Usually online college degrees are a shortened version of what you are going to get if you go to a campus-based school. This is most often like that, but if you are attending some of the best online colleges, you will find that there is almost no difference between the volume of the material you are going to study. The best thing is that you decide when you are going to study. You are the one that creates the schedule and if you have anything important that pops up, then you won’t have to worry, because you can’t go to the classroom. You can study 5 hours in one day or you can study 5 hours in a week. It’s all up to you. If you would like to practise the things that you have learned, you will most probably take some time and do practice tests or whatever, to test your skills.
I do believe that even though there are lots of pros to the online colleges, there are some vital things that are taken out of the educational process. You’re studying by yourself, so you aren’t competing with anyone. While in college, as I already said, there are hundreds of other students which are all (well, okay just some of them) are striving to be better than the others and get that CEO position. You might think that this isn’t important, but it is, as the world has changed, due to the fact that there were people who raced each other in knowledge and achieved incredible success, building our modern world. Where would we be if it wasn’t for Galileo? I’m just saying that if you would like to learn even more than you are learning with online colleges, choose a normal college, it would greatly benefit you.
But don’t take this personal if you don’t have the ability to go to a normal campus college. It’s your life and the best thing you can do is to live it just as you like. Not doing so will make you regret lots of things when you grow older and wiser.
